What a Voice AI agent does
You give the agent a name, a voice, a model, and a language, then write a prompt that sets its role, its goals, what to collect from the caller, and when to hand off to a person. HighLevel lists lead qualification, customer support, and appointment booking as typical uses.
A knowledge base holds business facts the agent can draw on. Actions let it transfer the call, book an appointment, trigger a workflow, send a text, update the contact, call a custom webhook, or pass the call to another agent.
What it costs
These figures come from HighLevel's AI product pricing article, last modified 22 September 2026. Rates change, so confirm them in your account.
- Voice engine: $0.045 a minute.
- Text to speech: $0.015 a minute for OpenAI and Cartesia voices, $0.035 for ElevenLabs V2.5, and $0.170 for ElevenLabs V3.
- Language model: billed by tokens, at a rate that depends on the model you pick.
- Phone charges: separate, and they apply to every call whichever plan you are on.
- AI Employee Growth: $50 a month with 100 agent minutes covering inbound, outbound, and widget use.
- AI Employee Unlimited: $97 a month, with unlimited Voice AI usage subject to fair use.
Working out the per-minute cost
On pay-per-use with an OpenAI or Cartesia voice, the voice engine and text to speech come to $0.06 a minute. The language model and your phone charges come on top. For supported models, HighLevel also offers bundled speech-to-speech rates: $0.10 a minute for Google Gemini and $0.20 a minute for OpenAI GPT-4 Realtime.
Whether a plan beats pay-per-use depends on your call volume, so estimate your monthly minutes first.
What you need before you start
- Access to the right sub-account, with the View & Manage Voice AI Agents permission.
- A clear use case.
- Approved business information for the prompt or knowledge base.
- An eligible LC Phone number, Twilio number, or number pool for live calls.
Test before you go live
HighLevel says testing helps find prompt gaps, inaccurate answers, action failures, and unnatural call behavior. You can test with a browser Web Call or a Phone Call. Cover the common requests, the knowledge base answers, the edge cases, every action, transfers, silence, interruptions, and the closing.
Call transfer does not run during a Web Call test. Test transfers by phone, or call the deployed number.
Going live
Assigning a number does not guarantee the agent answers every call. Working hours, the routing mode, and your phone configuration all decide where a call goes.
- Assign an eligible phone number or number pool.
- Choose the call routing mode: Answer Directly or Use as Backup.
- Set working hours, either all hours or a custom schedule.
- Review the inbound call flow, forwarding, timeout, and voicemail settings.
Common questions
How much does GoHighLevel Voice AI cost per minute?
On pay-per-use, HighLevel bills a voice engine rate, a text to speech rate, and a language model token cost, plus phone charges. With an OpenAI or Cartesia voice, the first two come to $0.06 a minute. Two plans offer included or unlimited minutes.
Do I need a phone number for Voice AI?
For live calls, yes. HighLevel asks for an eligible LC Phone number, Twilio number, or number pool.
Will the agent answer every call?
Not necessarily. HighLevel says assigning a number does not guarantee it. Working hours, routing mode, and phone settings decide which calls reach the agent.
Can a Voice AI agent book appointments?
Yes. Appointment booking is one of the actions you can add to an agent, alongside call transfer, texting, and workflow triggers.
